How to use / FAQ

Drop in a JPEG, PNG, or WebP and the tool re-encodes it at a smaller size right in your browser. Adjust the quality slider to trade a little sharpness for a much smaller file, optionally cap the width to shrink big photos, and download the result. Your image is never uploaded — all the work happens on your device.

How does image compression work here?

Your image is decoded, drawn to a canvas (optionally at a smaller size), and re-encoded at the quality you choose. For JPEG and WebP, lowering the quality discards fine detail your eye barely notices, which can cut file size dramatically. PNG is lossless, so the biggest savings there come from reducing the dimensions.

Which format should I pick?

WebP usually gives the smallest files at a given quality and is supported by all modern browsers. JPEG is the safe choice for photos and universal compatibility. PNG is best when you need transparency or crisp lines. Choose Keep to re-encode in the original format.

Will compressing reduce image quality?

At high quality settings (around 80%) the difference is usually invisible while the file shrinks a lot. Lower settings save more but can introduce blur or blockiness. The live preview lets you find the right balance before downloading.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything runs locally in your browser using the canvas API, so your photos never leave your device — it even works offline once the page has loaded.
