How much should I tip?

In the US, 15–20% of the pre-tax bill is typical for table service, with 18% a common middle ground. The preset buttons cover the usual range, and you can enter any custom percentage.

How does splitting the bill work?

Set the number of people and the tool divides the grand total evenly, showing the per-person amount and each person's share of the tip. If you round the total up, the split is calculated from the rounded figure.

What does 'round total up' do?

It rounds the grand total up to the next whole amount and adds the small difference to the tip, so you can leave a tidy round number.

Is the tip calculated on the pre-tax amount?

It's calculated on whatever bill figure you enter. If you prefer to tip on the pre-tax subtotal, enter that number instead of the taxed total.
