How to use / FAQ

Add each course's credits and letter grade to compute your GPA on the standard 4.0 scale. Switch on weighting to give Honors and AP/IB courses a bonus, or turn on cumulative mode to carry forward your prior GPA. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is stored.

How is GPA calculated?

Each letter grade maps to grade points on the 4.0 scale (A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, and so on). Your GPA is the credit-weighted average: multiply each course's grade points by its credit hours, add those up, and divide by the total credits. A heavier course therefore moves your GPA more than a lighter one.

What's the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?

Unweighted GPA tops out at 4.0 and ignores course difficulty. Weighted GPA adds a bonus for harder classes — this tool adds 0.5 for Honors and 1.0 for AP or IB — so a weighted GPA can rise above 4.0. Turn weighting on to pick a type for each course.

How does cumulative mode work?

Enter your prior GPA and the total credits it was earned over, and the calculator blends those quality points with the courses you list. It's the same weighted average, just including your history — handy for seeing how a new semester shifts your overall GPA.

Which grading scale does this use?

It uses the common United States 4.0 scale with plus and minus grades, capping A+ at 4.0 in unweighted mode. Some schools use slightly different point values or a 4.3/5.0 scale, so check your institution's official scale if you need an exact match.
