How to use / FAQ
How do you calculate the grade I need on the final?
The final's weight tells the tool how much of your overall grade is still undecided. It solves needed = (target − current × (1 − weight)) ÷ weight, where weight is the final's share written as a fraction. For example, with an 85% current grade, a 90% target, and a final worth 30%, you'd need about 101.7% — which the tool flags as out of reach.
What does 'over 100%' or 'already secured' mean?
If the score needed is above 100, your target can't be reached with the final alone. If it's zero or below, you've already locked in your target — even a zero on the final would keep you at or above it.
How does the weighted grade mode work?
It computes a weighted average: each category's score is multiplied by its weight, those are summed, and the total is divided by the sum of the weights. Weights are relative, so they don't have to add up to 100 — a 20/30/50 split and a 2/3/5 split give the same result.
Do the category weights have to total 100%?
No. Because the tool divides by the total weight you enter, any consistent scale works. It shows the running total so you can check it matches your syllabus if you want it to sum to 100%.
